25 Pounds and The Benefits of Coconut Oil
I am just going to get right to the good news today, because I am too excited not to.
I started this WOE on August 3rd, so today is my 5 week mark. In that time, I have lost a total of 25.8 pounds. I am absolutely thrilled with that result.
On most weight loss programs, you are lucky if you lose 5 pounds in a month, and right now I am averaging 5 pounds a week! I don’t imagine this level will continue forever, but I was starting with a very large amount of weight (100+ pounds) that needs to go away.
It has always been discouraging to me when you start a new weight loss program and your biggest goal to hope for is a pound a week, that is pretty normal. But for someone like me, you really want to see greater results than that, lol
I know, people say “You didn’t gain it in a week, you can’t expect to lose it that fast either”. True, maybe I can’t expect it, but I want it gone… NOW!!! LOL
I am not thinking of this as a new diet, or a weight loss program. I am thinking of this as a way of eating, a way of life. My ultimate goal is to get healthy to enjoy my upcoming empty nest. I want to get rid of the “pre-diabetic” tag that I have, lose the medications that I have been on for years, and just feel way better in all round. I want to be able to move easily and freely, and I want to be able to go places without being the biggest gal in the room.
One thing that I have added this week is Coconut Oil.
This was one of my goals for the month of September. There is so much information around on the benefits of adding coconut oil to your diet. A lot of people add a tablespoon to their morning coffee. The thought of doing that actually didn’t sit well with me, how yucky to add oil to your coffee!
I tried it this past week and it isn’t bad at all. You have to drink the coffee when it’s hot, or it will form a scum on the top (and that is gross, lol).
So on to the benefits of coconut oil. I found a few really great articles that I thought I would share with you:
- Authority Nutrition, has a list of 10 Proven Health Benefits of Coconut Oil
- Medical Daily has another on The 5 Surprising Benefits of Coconut Oil
- Mercola.com has a really interesting article (and a recipe for a chocolate treat) with the Countless Uses of Coconut Oil
These are just 3 of the countless articles spouting the benefits of coconut oil. What I really like is the idea that it can aid in weight loss, it can give you a quick energy boost without messing with blood sugar levels, and it helps to raise your good cholesterol levels.
I also like that coconut oil is such a great moisturizer and in fact am going to start using it on my skin as well. With the winter season coming up, having a good moisturizer is of huge importance. Especially living in a cold region like me in Canada.
The coconut oil that I am using is the Omega Nutrition Organic Coconut Oil. I actually got this first jar from the health food store, but the lady there said it is her favorite because it has a “neutral taste”. So far I like it, but I found it much cheaper on Amazon.com (that’s my link) than it was at the health food store.
I am going to continue to use it in my morning coffee. I generally only have it in one cup each day and am using about 1 tbsp per cup. I am also going to start using it in my cooking and as a skin moisturizer.
Since I am a Coconut oil “N”, I would love to hear if you use it, and HOW you use it. This way of eating is making me learn a lot of things (and that’s totally cool). As I learn them, I share them with you.
On a side note: Happy Labor Day!
I hope that you are having a wonderful long weekend. Here in Canada (where I live anyway) the weather totally sucks this weekend. So sadly a lot of people who do their last camping trip of the season had to call it off. I think it is a super weekend to turn on the furnace, stay inside and keep working. Whatever it is you’ve been up to this weekend, I hope you are enjoying it. 🙂
