.... and it was a good belly laugh too!
I was reading blogs in my reader, and came across this post by Chris Voss on his blog The Chris Voss Show - The 46 Stages of Twitter Usage
That's Me!!!!!
I read it, and I laughed out loud...
It must have been two years ago when Twitter was still a relatively new - not widely discovered social platform, that I signed up for an account. The rage back then was all about this new thing called "microblogging" - do you remember?
So I got the account, tried to get a few followers, didn't really understand
what it was all about, felt much more comfortable on myspace. ALL my friends and I totally agreed that Twitter was just some stupid Fad, and I didn't log back in for almost another full year (Basically stages 5-17).
Tried it again - got a reasonable handle on it. In fact I almost figured out what a RT was at that point (18-20). BUT it seemed soooo time consuming, and I already had enough things sucking time out of my day. I wasn't really getting anywhere with it, or so I thought. At this point I knew how to send a retweet, but I had no idea how to check if someone was retweeting, or mentioning me, or responding to me in anyway other than a DM (and most of those were spam).
Logged off again for several months....
September 2010 - Logged back in. This time I was more determined. I realize how important Twitter can be in establishing my online personal brand, directing traffic to my sites, and just getting out into the community. Spending considerable time on Twitter to discover the art of the tweet (stages 21-32).
Twitter has gone from being just a "stupid fad" to an integral part of the online business plan. Finding the right followers, and following like minded people can be extremely helpful in:
- learning and finding relevant information.
- be helpful to your followers (potential clients/readers).
- finding business associates or possible JV partners.
- adding a "personal" touch to your business, thus building your brand even further.
- word of mouth (retweets)
Just to name a few.
Now I have to admit - I don't think I am yet a full out Twitter addict, and I admit that I have not gone through to stage 46, but I bet you I will. LOL!!
So what about you? How far along the Twitter stages scale are you?
Do you check your phone, and constantly refresh? Do you think in 140 character sentences? Do you still talk to your 3D peeps?
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the general topic of Twitter. After all, I am still learning and would love to hear what's working for you, and what's not.
Leave me a comment and (if you think it possible) give some tweet love! I'll return the favor.
Stay tuned, as I continue the story...
