It is the Canada Day long weekend, and this is our 150th Birthday!!  So it’s a really big weekend for celebrating.  As I am preparing for our big family gathering this afternoon, I got to thinking…

It was a year ago when I took my very first ever ride in a tube!

This was a very “significant event” for me in my journey to health.  My sister and her husband have been into sea-doos and boats since all our kids were very small.  I would guess it’s been 18-20 years worth of great memories out at the lakes. [continue reading…]

Did you know that I have been wearing glasses since I was in third grade?

I’ve never liked the feeling of wearing glasses (or how they look on my face) so in 99% of any pictures I take, I am wearing my contact lenses.

The difference now is that between all of the driving I do and all of the time I spend on my computer, my eyes get very tired and dry by the end of the day in my contact lenses.

PLUS….

I am at that stage in life (getting older) where I needed to start wearing progressive lenses (trifocals). [continue reading…]

Do you ever get to the point where you are just sick of cooking and sick of everything that you cook?

I do!

It’s actually been several months that I have been sick of all my old favorite low carb recipes and meals.  To make a confession, I haven’t been eating as low carb as I need to be for the last few months, and I’m really feeling negative effects of it.

It’s so easy to just grab something quick, and now that I have “littles” in my house again I have to cook them well balanced (including carbs) meals.   To often, I am just grabbing what they have.

The problem is that isn’t any good for me.  I’ve gained about 5 pounds, I feel bloated, lacking energy, and just not on top of my game.

My Day at the Spa

I had a nice treat last week.  My daughter had entered me in a Mother’s Day contest at The Body Shop, and I WON!

It took me a while to go in and claim the prize, I actually had to cancel twice, once because I had a bit of an eye infection and the second time because I had to do a trip out of town.

When I finally got in there, I was pampered with a free facial and makeover.  Of course the main goal was to showcase all of their products.  But it was a nice relaxing pampering session for baby K and I.

If you know anything about me, you know that I am a pretty “plain Jane” kind of girl.  I don’t wear a bunch of makeup, and I normally have a really quick wash, moisturize and go routine in the morning. [continue reading…]

My daily life and aspirations have changed so drastically over the course of my journey to health…

It use to be that the only place you would see me walking was up and down the junk food isle at the grocery store trying to “stock up” on the comfort food that kept me so uncomfortable.

Looking back, I find it really amusing (and very sad) because I would go up and down the isle quick in hopes that no one would notice me or how many bags of chips I was putting in my cart.  I would also grab a 24 pack of DIET PEPSI (as if that was helping lol).

I always felt so …. ashamed!!

People would look in my cart, and then look me up and down, some people would even start whispering and pointing.

I would wait until I put all the kids to bed, and then go grab a bag of chips and a diet Pepsi (so I wasn’t getting all that sugar of course), then I would go and pig out in my bed while I fell asleep vowing tomorrow would be a better day. [continue reading…]
